Morgott the Omen King: Fight, Summons and Damage Types

Direct answer: Morgott, the Omen King waits at the Elden Throne in the south-eastern part of Leyndell, Royal Capital. He is not optional — beating him is what unlocks the Mountaintops of the Giants. The arena is a wide, flat circular platform with nothing to hide behind.

Summons and resistances

Both Melina and Dung Eater are available. Dung Eater only counts if you have already released him from his cell in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds, so visiting the sewers is worth doing before this fight rather than after.

He deals two different damage types, which is the part most guides blur together:

  • His curved sword inflicts blood loss.
  • The golden weapons he summons deal holy damage.

You need resistance to one of those, not both. Fire resistance covers the holy armaments and is the more common defensive option; a bleed-resistant build handles the sword. Bleed or rot resistance alone will feel bad here.

How the fight goes

He is fast and aggressive, chaining attacks with very few openings. You will be jumped on, knocked down, and opened up constantly. The practical approach is to keep moving and punish the recoveries rather than trying to trade.

Watch for the hammer-blade and spear combos, where he summons a spectral Giant-Crusher or Treespear mid-attack. These are where most deaths happen — the summoning animation gives you a moment, and treating it as a free attack window is usually correct.

At 50% health he shifts into phase 2: his blade is coated in cursed blood, the ground erupts in bloodflame geysers, and he gains bloodflame attacks that leave delayed explosions. The floor becomes the main hazard rather than his blade. Once the geysers are up, the safe play is to keep moving across the arena and never settle.

Wrong turns worth knowing

  • Standing still to trade. The combo strings are long and he does not leave space for a slow weapon to recover.
  • Ignoring the geysers in phase 2. They persist. Fighting on top of one is the main phase 2 mistake.
  • Summoning Dung Eater without freeing him first. The option will be greyed out and you will have wasted the opportunity.
  • Hiding behind the throne. The arena has no cover, and the throne breaks if you hit it — so it is not a place to fight from.

Evidence status

Research-reviewed. Damage types, summon availability, the 50% phase 2 threshold, and the arena layout are stated from current game data. Not gameplay-verified — the fight advice is written from the encounter’s documented behaviour rather than from a capture.
