Abandoned Cave Gold Scarab Location

Direct answer: the Gold Scarab is in the Abandoned Cave, a rot-flooded cave in the cliffs of northern Caelid above the ravine that leads to the Deep Siofra Well. It sits past two Cleanrot stragglers. The Scarab raises runes gained from enemies by 20%.

Before you start

  • Start at the Smoldering Wall Site of Grace and go due east. That is the simple on-foot approach.
  • There is a second approach: cross a root from the west side of the ravine to the east, passing an operating Iron Virgin. This is the one to know if you arrive from the deep Siofra side.
  • There is a Site of Grace inside the cave itself. Use it, but do not assume it is convenient.

What makes this cave different

The Abandoned Cave is swamped in scarlet rot, and the rot is not static. Geysers of it burst from the ground at intervals, so a route that is safe when you read it may not be safe thirty seconds later. Watch the pattern before you commit to a crossing rather than reacting to it.

It is also littered with the inactive husks of Iron Virgins, and there is at least one still operational. Those things are the reason the root crossing is worth doing carefully rather than at a gallop.

The route

1. Find the mouth

The cave is etched into the cliffs, so it reads as a shadow in the rock face until you are close. From Smoldering Wall it is a straight eastward line. From the ravine, you are looking for the root crossing.

2. Survive the geysers

Move in short bursts between bursts. Rot buildup is cumulative, so crossing quickly matters more than crossing cleverly — and resting at the cave’s grace is how you reset it.

3. The Cleanrot stragglers

Deep in the main chamber, two of Malenia’s soldiers are still fighting. They are Cleanrot Knights, and they are the real difficulty of this cave — the rot is only the environment. They hit hard and they apply rot themselves.

4. The Gold Scarab

Past the two Cleanrots is the Scarab. Twenty percent more runes from every enemy you kill, permanently. It is one of the few talismans in the game that scales with how much you are willing to farm.

Wrong turns worth knowing

  • Following the cave from the ravine without noticing the Iron Virgin that is still moving. It is the single most dangerous thing in here.
  • Standing in a geyser’s path and waiting to see if it fires. It fires.
  • Entering without a rot remedy or a way to clear buildup. The cave is small enough that you cannot route around the rot.
  • Expecting this to be a short fight. Two Cleanrot Knights is a real fight, not a slog.

Evidence status

Research-reviewed. The location, the rot geysers that burst at intervals inside the chamber, the Iron Virgin husks, the two Cleanrot stragglers, and the Scarab’s 20% rune effect are stated from current game data. Not gameplay-verified — the geyser timing in particular is the kind of detail that needs a capture before anyone should navigate by it.
