Siofra River

Start here if you have not been underground yet

Siofra River is the first of the three underground regions, and the gateway to the other two. It is enormous, it runs under both Limgrave and Caelid, and it has an open sky that is not actually a sky. Nothing about it is gated except the parts worth going for.

The main entrance is completely free. A domed building in the Mistwood in eastern Limgrave, a lift, and you are below the Lands Between. If you have a Stonesword Key to spare, there is a second entrance in Caelid that drops you into the eastern half near the aqueduct, which is a better starting point if the eastern half is what you came for.

What you need before you go

  • A light source. Siofra is large and dim, and the visual range is short.
  • Some way to handle the bears in the Mistwood approach if you come from Limgrave. They are the most common early death in the area.
  • For the Ancestor Spirit: the Light of Miquella. Not required, but it is the difference between a long fight and a short one.
  • For Nokron: Starscourge Radahn already defeated. More on this below, because it is the mistake almost everyone makes.

How the region divides

  • The lower Siofra — reachable from the start. Ancestral Woods, Worshippers’ Woods, the southern Hallowhorn Grounds, and the Ancestor Spirit.
  • The eastern palace — Mohg’s Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum on its own island, available from the start.
  • The Siofra Aqueduct — the eastern side, guarded by the Valiant Gargoyles, and the source of the coffin that opens Deeproot Depths.
  • Nokron, Eternal City — the upper ruins in the north. Locked until you beat Radahn. Holds the Fingerslayer Blade.

A map fragment sits on a corpse near the stairs up to the Hallowhorn Grounds, east of the Siofra River Bank grace. Take it. The region is big enough that it changes how you explore it.

Common wrong turns

  • Arriving before Radahn and assuming you are stuck. You are not. Siofra is fully available from early game. Only Nokron waits for Radahn, and the game will not tell you that is the reason.
  • Touching the horned remains and nothing happening. The Ancestor Spirit does not spawn until all eight flames are lit.
  • Writing “Ancestral Spirit.” The boss is Ancestor Spirit. The talisman it drops is Ancestral Spirit’s Horn. Both spellings are correct, for different things.
  • Hunting for a Greathorn from the southern boss. That is the northern one. The southern reward is the horn talisman.
  • Spending a Stonesword Key on the Caelid well when you have nothing spare. The Limgrave entrance is free and always available.

Evidence status

Every guide in this region is research-reviewed: routes, prerequisites, and rewards cross-checked against multiple independent references, with conflicting claims either resolved or left out. None are gameplay-verified — no route here has been run and recorded yet, so treat the research as accurate and your own run as untested.
